Thermodynamics of Liquids under Nanoconfinement

This slide describes observations of different melting/freezing points for water under confinement in open pores of different size and morphology. Similar findings were also reported on the glass transition temperature of liquid hydrocarbons, and several notable papers were combined to create this slide.  Click here to view this Highlight Slide.

Influence of Silica Nanopore Size on the Transport of Confined Hydrocarbons and CO2

Work from the Gadikota research group at Cornell University shows that lighter molecules, such as propane, can be preferentially displaced by CO2 in silica nanopores compared to heavier liquids, such as toluene, which also diffused more slowly in confinement. This work represents fundamental research supporting a range of geological and energy applications. Click here to view this Highlightr Slide.

Silica Surface States and their Wetting Characteristics

Work from the Miller research group at the University of Utah presents molecular dynamics and ab initio results from modeling the surfaces of polar and nonpolar silica. Click here to view this Highlight Slide.
